Description

A mid-to-late 20th-century studio art glass paperweight of squat, rounded form. The clear glass body encases a complex internal decoration featuring a mottled tortoiseshell or leopard-spot pattern in shades of deep brown and amber. This decorative element radiates from a central floral-like starburst motif and is further embellished with five large, symmetrically placed controlled air bubbles. The base is finished with a polished surface and features an applied circular glass wafer with an impressed rectangular seal mark. This mark, consisting of a four-character hanko-style grid, is characteristic of Japanese art glass production from the mid-century period, such as that produced by the Kurata or Iwatsu glasshouses.

Diameter: 7.5 cm.

Condition report:

The paperweight is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or significant surface scratches. The internal decoration remains vibrant and the glass is clear. Typical light shelf wear is present on the base.
