Description

This lot comprises two decorative objects: a Carlton Ware ceramic bowl and an etched glass tankard. The Carlton Ware bowl is of square, lobed form with an undulating, scalloped rim. It features a deep burgundy lustre glaze known as Rouge Royale. The interior is decorated with a Chinoiserie scene in gilt and polychrome enamels, known as the Mikado pattern, depicting a large pagoda, figures on a bridge, and stylized flora including a weeping willow. The rim is finished with a broad, textured gold border. The base bears the printed maker mark: Carlton Ware, MADE IN ENGLAND, TRADE MARK, Rouge Royale.

The tankard is constructed from clear glass with a subtle amethyst tint, most prominent at the base and handle. The body is decorated with wheel-engraved or etched foliate and leaf motifs. It features a pedestal base and a loop handle.

Bowl: width 16 cm

Tankard: height 12 cm.

Condition report:

The Carlton Ware bowl displays fine, age-related crazing throughout the glaze and minor surface wear to the interior gilding. A small chip is visible on the underside of the foot rim. The glass tankard is in good condition with no visible chips or cracks.
