Lot 220:
Description
An Art Deco period vanity case or minaudiere of rectangular form with an integrated cylindrical lipstick holder. The case is constructed from gold-tone metal, featuring inset black lacquer or enamel panels to the front and reverse. These black panels are decorated with geometric gold-tone line borders, with a central rectangular reserve on the front face. The interior is fitted with a rectangular mirror and a secondary hinged lid for a powder compartment, both featuring engine-turned decoration. The maker’s mark, consisting of a triangle surmounted by a crown containing stylized initials, is present on the inner lid and the included fabric powder puff. This mark is that of Kigu, London. The lipstick holder is attached by a short gold-tone snake chain.
Condition report:
Good vintage condition. The black enamel panels exhibit surface scratches and minor abrasions consistent with age and use. There is general wear and tarnishing to the gold-tone metal finish, particularly along the edges and on the lipstick holder. The interior mirror shows minor foxing around the perimeter. The hinges and clasps are in functional order.
