Description

A 19th-century Persian cylindrical brass vessel, likely dating from the Qajar period. The object is constructed from hammered brass and features high-relief repoussé and chased decoration. The exterior surface shows traces of a silvery metal finish, possibly tinning or remnants of silvering, within the recessed areas. The decoration is arranged in three distinct horizontal registers. The upper register contains a continuous frieze of scrolling floral vines with five-petalled blossoms. The central register features a bold band of calligraphic script in high relief, characteristic of a monumental Thuluth or related decorative style, depicting stylized characters interwoven with ornamental flourishes. The lower register comprises a figurative scene with various animals, including a dromedary camel and a lion-like feline, set amongst stylized trees and foliage. The base is finished with a repeating band of stylized leaf motifs. The interior displays the indented negatives of the exterior design, confirming the hand-hammered technique.
