Description
A pair of mid-20th-century carved wood caricature figures attributed to Ermanno Romer, depicting soldiers in a whimsical folk-art style. The sculptures are crafted from wood with a polished honey-coloured finish and darker stains applied to represent the boots, backpack straps, and buttons. Both figures feature expressive, open-mouthed facial expressions and are dressed in long, buttoned greatcoats and peaked caps. They each carry a square backpack with a bedroll carved into the top. The taller soldier holds a long staff, while the shorter soldier holds a slender rod or baton. The figures are carved with integral wooden bases and heavy, chunky boots.

Shorter figure height: 33 cm.
Condition report:
The figures are in good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. There are small areas of finish loss and rubbing to the stain, primarily located on the boots and the edges of the backpacks. No significant chips, structural cracks, or signs of professional repair are visible.
