Description
An Otis King Model L cylindrical helical slide rule calculator, manufactured by Carbic Ltd., London. The instrument is constructed with chrome-plated metal end caps and a sliding central sleeve featuring a black matte finish. The logarithmic scales are printed on spirally-wrapped paper applied to the internal metal cylinders. The device bears the following printed marks near the handle: OTIS KING’S PATENT, MADE IN ENGLAND, and serial number No. Y 9336. The upper scale is marked SCALE No. 414 and the lower scale is marked SCALE No. 423. Included with the instrument is its original two-part black cardboard telescope box and a paper booklet titled The Otis King Calculator: Instructions For Use.

Condition report:
The instrument appears to be in good mechanical order with the cylinders sliding and rotating smoothly. The scales remain clean, bright, and legible with no signs of peeling or significant staining. The chrome finish shows minor surface scuffing and light wear consistent with age. The black finish on the central sleeve is well-preserved. The original cardboard box shows shelf wear, particularly rubbing at the corners and edges. The instruction manual is intact but shows yellowing and original fold lines.
