Description
A collection of vintage and modern educational microscopes, primarily of British manufacture. The group includes a Thomas Salter Microscope Lab 1 set in its original illustrated retail box, featuring dual built-in specimen floodlighting and an accompanying manual. Also present is a Signalling Equipment Ltd. Students Microscope No. 2 in its original cardboard packaging, specified as having 70x magnification and including slides and metal forceps. A Merit Student Microscope by J & L Randall Ltd is included in its original box, featuring 100x magnification and rack and pinion adjustment. The contemporary instrument in the group is a Motic SFC-3AF compound microscope with a cream-coloured enamel finish on a metal frame. This model features a revolving nosepiece with three objective lenses, a fixed stage with specimen clips, rack and pinion coarse focus adjustment, and a gimbal-mounted substage mirror for illumination.

The items are in good vintage and used condition. The original cardboard boxes for the Thomas Salter, Merit, and Signalling Equipment Ltd models exhibit age-related wear including scuffing, minor staining, and edge wear. Mechanical functions such as the focus knobs and revolving nosepiece move freely. The instruments have not been tested for optical precision or clarity. The completeness of the internal accessory sets, including slides and tools, cannot be fully guaranteed.
