Description
A mid-20th-century Swiss-made 8-day mechanical travel alarm clock by Zenith. The clock features a square gilt brass case with engine-turned vertical ribbing, resting on four bun feet. The square dial is finished in gilt with a circular chapter ring, black Arabic numerals, and an outer minute track. It is fitted with black hands featuring darkened luminous infill, all protected by a domed glass crystal. The dial is marked ZENITH below the 12 o’clock position, SAM LYON JNR BLACKPOOL above the 6 o’clock position, and SWISS MADE at the bottom edge. The movement backplate is stamped with the serial number 64993 and includes regulation and alarm setting scales. A circular stamp reads SWISS ZENITH WATCH MADE – 8 DAYS. The clock is housed in its original black leather-covered folding presentation case. The interior is lined with a pale satin fabric, showing circular impressions and oxidation marks from the clock.
Clock body: 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) square
Presentation case height: 3.25 inches (8.3 cm).
Condition report:
The three winding and setting keys are missing from the back of the movement, leaving only the square-tapered and threaded stems; mechanical function is untested. The brass case displays surface tarnishing and wear consistent with age. The dial has minor surface patination, and the luminous infill on the hands is partially missing or heavily darkened. The outer leather case is in poor condition with significant scuffing, finish loss, and peeling at the corners. The interior fabric lining is heavily stained and discoloured.
