Description
A vintage Prinz Optics refractor astronomical telescope set, historically marketed as an exclusive brand for the UK retailer Dixons. The instrument features a white finished metal optical tube assembly and a manual equatorial mount finished in grey. The mount includes two flexible slow-motion control cables with black adjustment knobs and a cylindrical grey metal counterweight on a threaded shaft. The telescope is supported by a set of three dark-stained wooden tripod legs with metal hardware and a triangular grey metal accessory tray with circular cutouts.
Accessories included in the set consist of a black and chrome finder scope with a mounting bracket, a star diagonal, and three eyepieces housed in individual plastic containers. The telescope is presented in its original cardboard storage box with molded polystyrene interior inserts. The exterior of the box is marked with the Prinz Optics logo and the text Equatorial Astronomical Telescope and Exclusive to Dixons. A gold-toned manufacturer’s label is located on the optical tube near the focuser, though individual specifications are not clearly legible from the images.
Condition report:
The telescope components are in a used condition with visible surface dust on the optical tube and mount. There is minor age-related oxidation and tarnish present on some exposed metal parts. The optical clarity of the lenses and the mechanical precision of the mount and slow-motion controls have not been tested. The original cardboard box is in poor condition, showing significant tearing, creasing, heavy wear, and multiple areas of old adhesive tape reinforcement. The internal polystyrene packaging remains intact but shows minor soiling and typical signs of use.
