Description

This lot comprises two portable three-draw terrestrial telescopes. The first is an antique example by Broadhurst Clarkson and Co. Ltd. featuring brass draw tubes and fittings with a wooden sleeve, likely mahogany, on the main barrel. The brass collar is engraved with the maker’s name and address: Broadhurst Clarkson and Co Ltd, 63 Farringdon Rd, London. The second is a modern example by Tasco, constructed from polished brass with a stitched burgundy-coloured leather-effect covering. The brass band at the objective end is engraved with tasco 25x30mm. This item is accompanied by a matching brown zippered soft carrying case with a shoulder strap.
Broadhurst Clarkson length: Extended approximately 42 cm
Tasco length: Extended approximately 33 cm.

Condition report:

The Broadhurst Clarkson telescope displays a heavy natural aged patina to all brass surfaces. The wooden barrel shows surface scratches, minor indentations, and light wear consistent with age and use. The original lens caps are missing. The Tasco telescope is in excellent aesthetic condition with bright polished brass and intact leatherette. The mechanical draw action on both instruments appears functional. Optics have not been tested.
