Description
A group of Kung-Fu Monthly magazines published in the UK during the 1970s, primarily focused on the film career and martial arts of Bruce Lee. The collection includes various issues such as numbers 13, 70, 73, and 79, alongside a larger format book titled The Power of Bruce Lee An Illustrated Analysis of Bruce Lee’s Fighting Systems by Paul Simmons and the editors of Kung-Fu Monthly. The periodicals feature iconic imagery from films such as Enter the Dragon and Game of Death, with content also referencing Jackie Chan and Bob Wall. Accompanying the ephemera is a diverse assortment of vintage collectibles and small antiques. Notable items include a large cast metal handbell with a turned wooden handle, featuring the incised numeral 12 on the shoulder. Metalware consists of a white metal engine-turned hip flask and a vintage British pre-decimal coin savings bank in its original red box, with specific slots for six pence and three pence coins. The lot includes a boxed Wedgwood blue jasperware cameo with a white relief profile in a blue velvet-lined presentation case. Scientific and novelty instruments include a Reader’s Digest Nature-Scope in its original box, a pocket 8X telescope and 30X microscope in a cased set, and a boxed magnifying glass with a feather-motif letter opener. Sporting interest is represented by a blue and white painted wooden football rattle with red Pompey lettering for Portsmouth FC. Condition report:
The magazines exhibit typical age-related paper toning, minor foxing, and shelf wear to the edges and spines, including some corner bumping and light cover creasing. The handbell shows surface oxidation and pitting consistent with its age and material. Original cardboard packaging for the Nature-Scope and coin bank displays significant edge wear and some tearing. The Wedgwood jasperware piece appears to be in good condition. Miscellaneous items show general surface wear and accumulated dust from storage.
