Description
An early 20th-century mechanical dashboard clock manufactured by S. Smith and Sons (M.A.) Ltd. The timepiece is housed within a cylindrical black-painted metal canister featuring a wide circular mounting flange with four fixing holes. The clock unit is hinged to the outer canister, allowing it to swing forward to access the rear controls. The silvered dial features black Arabic numerals, a closed minute track, and two ornate black hands. The dial is marked with the code P- 263.251 and bears the Smiths trademark logo and manufacturer details for Cricklewood Works, London. The interior of the outer case retains an original paper instruction label detailing winding, setting, and regulation procedures.
Flange diameter: 95 mm
Case depth: 70 mm.
Condition report:
The clock is in a weathered condition consistent with age and storage. The mounting flange shows significant pitting and surface oxidation. The black-painted canister has multiple scratches and paint chips throughout. The dial face exhibits heavy foxing, staining, and discoloration. The internal paper label is intact but yellowed with age-related staining. The mechanical movement is untested and will likely require professional servicing.
