Description
An automotive dashboard badge supplied by D. Carlaw & Sons Ltd of Glasgow. The square plaque features a deep blue vitreous enamel ground surrounding a central circular medallion in high relief. The medallion depicts St. Christopher carrying the Christ child, encircled by the French inscription Regarde St Christophe . Puis Va T-en Rassure . The central motif is flanked by two stylised thistle plants. The upper section is inscribed Supplied By D. Carlaw & Sons Ltd, with the lower section bearing the address 18 Bothwell Street Glasgow – C. 2. The reverse is stamped with the maker mark for R.E.V.M. Ltd, Twickenham. The badge includes two integrated side mounting lugs for attachment to a vehicle dashboard.
Condition report:
The enamel shows signs of age and use, including surface scratches, minor pitting, and small chips to the blue enamel particularly around the edges and mounting lugs. The silvering on the central medallion exhibits wear on the high points of the figures, revealing the base metal. The reverse shows significant oxidation and tarnish consistent with period use. The two mounting lugs are intact but slightly bent.
