Lot 11:
Description
A heavy, patinated Spelter sculpture of a standing gundog, modelled as a setter in the Animalier style. The dog is depicted in an alert, pointing stance with characteristic feathered coat detail, pendulous ears, and a level tail. The casting displays anatomical realism in the musculature and fine texture in the coat. The figure is finished with a dark brown patina and is mounted upon a rectangular, polished light-tan marble plinth. The underside of the plinth reveals two recessed bolt fixings which secure the bronze figure. No signatures, foundry marks, or inscriptions are visible on the casting or the base.
Height: 20 cm
Length: 35.5 cm
Base: 30.5 cm x 10 cm.
Condition report:
The Spelter shows age-related wear to the dark patina on the raised areas of the coat, ears, and tail, revealing the lighter metal beneath. There is an accumulation of surface dust and light grime within the deeper recesses of the casting. The marble plinth exhibits several minor flea bite chips and small nicks along the edges and corners. The underside of the base shows some age-related spotting and minor staining.
