Description
Prattware earthenware circular pot lid featuring an underglaze multi-colour transfer print titled Shakspeares House Henley St. Stratford on Avon. The decoration, produced by F. & R. Pratt of Fenton, depicts the historic birthplace of William Shakespeare with a bustling street scene including a procession of figures in 19th-century attire. The scene is enclosed by a stylised gold-toned dotted border. The lid is housed in a circular turned wooden frame with an ebonised finish and a metal hanging loop to the top.
Overall frame diameter: 12.7 cm
Ceramic lid diameter: 10 cm.
Condition report:
Fine age-related crazing throughout the glaze of the ceramic lid. No visible chips, cracks, or restorations to the face. The reverse of the lid shows minor staining. The ebonised frame displays minor surface scuffs and wear to the finish, with three small non-original holes present on the rear.
