Lot 9:
Description
A Chinese Canton Rose Medallion export porcelain plate, dating from the late 19th century. The plate features a lobed or scalloped gilt rim and is decorated in overglaze Famille Rose enamels. The design consists of four alternating reserves surrounding a central circular medallion. Two panels depict domestic interior scenes with figures in traditional attire, while the other two panels feature birds, butterflies, and floral sprays. The central medallion depicts a bird and flowers on a gilded ground. The reserves are bordered by a dense scrollwork pattern of green foliage, pink flowers, and butterflies on a gold-ground field. The underside is finished in a plain white glaze with no maker or reign marks present.
Condition report:
Minor wear to the gilding on the scalloped rim and internal borders, consistent with age and handling. The porcelain body appears free from chips, cracks, or visible repairs. The reverse displays typical firing imperfections including several small pinholes in the glaze. Minor surface soiling and shelf wear to the unglazed foot rim.
