Description

A nineteenth-century Style neoclassical bust of Diana (Artemis) after the antique ‘Diana of Versailles’ model. The goddess is depicted with her head turned to her left, hair swept back into a bun secured with a crescent-shaped diadem, and wearing a draped chiton. The bust is cast in metal with a dark brown toned patina and is mounted upon an integral circular pedestal base. This is a reproduction The rim of the circular base is incised with the foundry mark F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR and the side of the pedestal features a circular reduction seal marked REDUCTION MECANIQUE A. COLLAS BREVETE.

Condition report:

There is a significant chip and loss of material to the lower edge of the drapery at the rear. Rubbing and thinning of the patina are evident on high points, most notably on the nose and the folds of the garment. Minor surface scratches and light oxidation are present throughout.
