Description

This lot comprises two vintage British fishing reels of different designs. The first is a metal fly fishing reel manufactured by J.W. Young and Sons Ltd of Redditch, England. This Condex model features a textured grey crinkle finish and a central circular badge on the back plate containing the manufacturer details and Registered Number 634787. It is equipped with a single winding handle. The second item is a traditional Nottingham-style star back reel constructed from dark-stained wood, likely mahogany or walnut, with brass hardware. The front of the spool features twin dark winding handles and a central brass wing nut. The reverse plate is a brass cross-shaped star back design incorporating a small clicker lever and is attached to a brass foot plate. The wooden spool holds a quantity of brown monofilament line.
Condex Reel Diameter: 3.5 inches
Nottingham Reel Diameter: 4.75 inches.

Condition report:

Both reels show significant signs of age and previous use. The metal J.W. Young reel exhibits widespread surface wear and paint loss to the grey crinkle finish. The wooden Nottingham reel has a prominent vertical crack running through one side of the wooden spool. There is visible tarnish and spots of verdigris to the brass components on both items. The winding mechanisms remain intact but have not been tested for mechanical performance.
