Description
An assortment of mid-20th-century toys and games. The collection includes a lithographed tin toy drum by Chad Valley Co. Ltd., featuring a continuous scene of British guardsmen in full dress uniform and a yellow heraldic lion crest, with red and white diagonal striped rims and a red fabric tassel. Also included is a boxed Spearoscope optical creative toy by J.W. Spear and Sons, containing multicoloured pattern discs and a red plastic frame with internal mirrors. Other items comprise a boxed Bezique card game set in a green textured box with gilt-embossed lid; a Pocket Chess and Checkers set (No. 747, made in Hong Kong); a cardboard tube of traditional metal Jacks with two red rubber balls; a Yugo Pocket Solitaire set with blue plastic pegs; and various playing cards including a Piatnik Famous Cities Happy Families set and a Sum-It card game. Materials include lithographed tin, plastic, cardboard, and metal.
Drum height: approximately 24 cm.
Condition report:
Items are in played-with vintage condition. The tin drum shows surface scratches to the lithography, minor oxidation, and paint loss to the red rims. The Spearoscope box has significant edge wear, rubbing, and corner splits. The Bezique box shows surface scuffing and wear to the gilt lettering. The Pocket Chess and Checkers cardboard box is in poor condition with heavy tearing and missing sections. Card decks and game pieces are unverified for completeness.
