Lot 63:
Description
A collection of vintage technical drawing and calculating instruments. The group includes a professional Ecobra draughting set housed in a maroon zippered case with a green velvet interior, featuring a gold-toned metal badge with the manufacturer logo. This set comprises a large compass with extension bar, dividers, and two smaller bow compasses with various ruling pen attachments. Two additional hinged drawing sets are included, one with a blue velvet lining and one with a black velvet lining, both containing chrome-plated compasses, dividers, and interchangeable points.
The calculating instruments include a large white plastic slide rule with a red end-cap and clear plastic cursor, displaying scales T1, T2, A, B, CI, C, D, L, and K. A smaller pocket slide rule is present in a black textured slipcase, alongside a Paper Calculating Slide Rule housed in a maroon card folder printed with metric unit operating instructions. Two further slide rules are included, one in a clear plastic sleeve and one in a brown leather slipcase.
Measuring tools consist of a yellow-painted wooden four-fold rule graduated in inches and a long wooden tailor’s ruler marked Singer Made in England. The collection also features two gold-toned rectangular metal tins bearing the Mars Staedtler helmeted head logo.
Tailor’s ruler visible to 12 inches
Folding rule visible to 23 inches.
Condition report:
The mechanical components of the draughting instruments appear functional with firm joints. The slide rule cursors move freely. The wooden folding rule shows visible surface wear, staining, and paint loss, particularly at the hinges. The Mars Staedtler tins exhibit minor surface scratches and rubbing to the gold finish. Cases and plastic components show typical signs of age-related yellowing, dust, and light edge wear to the slipcases.
