Lot 72:
Description
This lot comprises a collection of items related to the nursing profession, featuring eleven lapel or fob watches, a professional nursing badge, and an educational book. The watches are specifically designed with inverted dials for ease of reading while pinned to a uniform. The selection includes two Sekonda watches with silver-tone multi-link fobs and green cross symbols on the dials, a Jean Pierre quartz pocket-style watch with a date window and chain, an Astral watch with a decorative open-link fob, and a Timex example. Other watches in the group include two marked Ramont, one featuring a mesh fob and nameplate, and three contemporary quartz watches in blue, green, and red silicone cases. Movements are predominantly quartz, housed in various materials including stainless steel, chrome-plated base metal, and silicone. The nursing badge is for The General Nursing Council for England & Wales, featuring a bronze-toned central medallion with a figure of a nurse holding a lamp, surrounded by a teal enamel border and a scalloped outer edge. The book is titled The Story of Nursing by J. M. Calder, part of the Methuen’s Outlines series, providing a mid-20th-century exploration of the history and development of nursing.
Book height: 22 cm.
Condition report:
The watches are in variable condition across the lot. Several metal-cased examples show significant plating wear, surface scratches, and tarnish to the fobs and cases. Crystals on multiple watches exhibit minor scuffing. All watches are sold as untested for working order or timekeeping. The badge retains a natural aged patina to the bronze-toned metal. The book shows age-related yellowing and wear to the edges of the cover.
