Description
This lot comprises two turned wooden gavels and a matching circular sound block. The set includes a gavel turned from a two-tone wood featuring distinct grain contrast between the heartwood and sapwood, characteristic of yew or laburnum. The second gavel and the stepped circular sound block are finished in a uniform dark mahogany stain on a hardwood base. Both gavels are constructed with traditional ring-turned handles and cylindrical striking heads. The set appears to be of mid-20th-century British manufacture.
Lighter gavel length: 33 cm
Darker gavel length: 31 cm
Sound block base diameter: 11.5 cm.
Condition report:
The items are presented in good used condition. There is minor surface wear and light scuffing to the striking faces of the gavel heads and the top of the sound block, consistent with functional use. No major cracks, chips, or structural repairs are evident. The finish on the darker gavel shows some very fine surface scratches.
