Description

A collection of hand-carved wooden decorative wall masks, showcasing various stylistic elements influenced by African tribal traditions. The collection features diverse forms and carving techniques. Included is a vertical dual-face mask carved from a single piece of wood, featuring two stacked human visages with incised geometric scarification patterns and a two-tone finish. Also present is an openwork decorative piece depicting a stylized elephant with a curved trunk above a human face, finished in a uniform dark reddish-brown stain. A third solid mask depicts a bearded male face with prominent rectangular ears and a textured finish, including a cylindrical handle or mounting post at the base. The largest piece is an elongated, narrow mask with two tall vertical crests, decorated with relief-carved crescent shapes and geometric banding, utilising a two-tone finish to emphasise the detail. These items are contemporary carvings produced for the decorative export market.
