Lot 174:
Description
A collection of novelty barware and folk art pieces comprising several hand-painted resin character bottle stoppers and three wooden Russian items, all contained within a rectangular dark-stained wooden box. The stoppers include busts of a pirate with a green parrot, a jockey in yellow and red silks, a military officer in a peaked cap, an aviator in a flight jacket, a woman in a blue gown, and a gentleman in a tuxedo and top hat. Each figure is mounted on a black ribbed plastic base. One base features a debossed copyright symbol and text reading Designs of followed by characters that are not legible as a name. The folk art pieces consist of a large wooden toothpick holder modelled as a traditional nesting doll in a black dress with floral patterns, and two smaller wooden figures with whistle mouthpieces, painted in traditional red and blue colours. The items are housed in a rectangular dark-stained wooden box with a hinged lid and a metal lock escutcheon.
Width: 20 cm.
Condition report:
The wooden box shows significant age-related wear, including extensive scuffing, scratches, and loss of finish, particularly along the edges and corners (photo 1). The bottle stoppers exhibit minor instances of paint rubbing and small chips to the finish, most notably on the jockey\'s yellow helmet and the aviator\'s brown gloves (photo 2). The Russian-style wooden pieces show minor surface wear but are generally in good condition (photo 3). The black plastic stoppers appear intact (photo 2).
