Lot 209:
Description
An iron mechanical bank modelled as a bust-length figure in a red jacket. The figure features a smiling expression with an open mouth, wearing a bright red jacket over a white pointed collar. The mechanical action is operated via a lever at the rear, which causes the right arm to rise to the mouth while the eyes roll upwards to receive a coin. The piece is cast in two sections and joined by a single red-painted flat-head screw at the rear. There are no legible maker marks or patent inscriptions visible on the exterior casing.
Height: 16 cm
Width: 14 cm.
Condition report:
The bank exhibits significant and widespread paint loss across the head and face, revealing the dark grey metal beneath (photo 1). Surface oxidation and light rust are visible where the original paint is absent (photo 1, 2). There are numerous chips and scuffs to the red paint on the jacket and arm (photo 1). While the mechanical lever is present, the synchronised movement of the features has not been confirmed (photo 2).
