Description
A Cold War period Gold coloured unit badge for the Selous Scouts, a special forces regiment of the Rhodesian Security Forces. The shield-shaped badge features a bi-colour field with a maroon upper section signifying airborne status and an olive-green lower section. Centred on the shield is a white stylised osprey, the unit emblem, depicted with wings spread downwards, positioned beneath a white parachute with outspread wings. The entire badge is finished with a glossy resin coating and framed by a polished gold border. The lower section is inscribed with the white Shona motto PAMWE CHETE, meaning ‘All Together’. The reverse is plain gold metal and incorporates a three-pin attachment system fitted with white plastic clutches.
Condition report:
The obverse surface is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or deep scratches to the glossy finish (photo 1). The colours remain vibrant throughout. The reverse metal surface shows light surface scratches and minor oxidation consistent with age (photo 2). The three mounting pins remain straight and firmly attached (photo 2).
