Lot 223:
Description
A collection of four military shoulder boards comprising a matching pair for a DDR Zivilverteidigung Oberstleutnant and a matching pair for a Soviet Border Guard Captain. The DDR boards are constructed with a maroon wool base and silver braid face, each adorned with three silver four-pointed pips in a triangular arrangement. The reverse features a matching maroon fabric securing tongue. The Soviet boards feature a green wool field with red piping and three gold stars arranged longitudinally. Each Soviet board is fitted with a gold pebbled button at the narrow end. The reverse of the Soviet boards is finished in olive drab cotton drill with a securing tongue and a silver button fastener. No manufacturer marks or labels are visible on any of the pieces.
Condition report:
No visible faults to the DDR shoulder boards, with the silver braiding remaining bright and the wool base showing no signs of moth damage (photo 1). The Soviet Border Guard boards show minor surface wear to the green fabric and a light patina to the gold stars (photo 1). One gold star on the lower Soviet board appears slightly misaligned (photo 1). The reverse of all boards shows standard wear with all attachment tongues and metal fasteners intact (photo 2).
