Description
A Victorian Silver Plated novelty inkwell modelled as a cast walnut set upon a base of three overlapping textured leaves. The hinged walnut shell lid opens to reveal a recessed interior housing a removable clear glass ink well. The base includes a small cast twig-like handle to one side, and the leaves feature detailed vein textures and scalloped edges. The underside of the leaf base is stamped with the characters L C & W H & C o in a rectangular punch and S P within an oval punch.

Condition report:
The metalwork shows heavy surface oxidation and dark tarnish throughout (photo 1). There is significant wear to the silver plating on the raised high points of the leaves and across the underside, revealing the darker base metal beneath (photo 3). The removable clear glass ink liner is in good condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 4). The hinge is functional and intact (photo 2).
