Description
A high-gloss caramel-glazed earthenware pin tray featuring a dark brown transfer-printed narrative scene. The scene is titled A WINTRY DAY’S AMUSEMENT and depicts a horse-drawn coach with a rearing horse against an ochre coloured ground. The reverse features a printed backstamp within a decorative cartouche reading SCENES FROM COACHING DAYS & COACHING WAYS BY SPECIAL PERMISSION OF MACMILLAN & Cº Lᵀᴰ, situated above a shield-shaped mark reading RIDGWAYS ENGLAND. The piece is finished with an all-over crazed glaze effect typical of the manufacturer’s production in this line.
Condition report:
The tray shows no visible chips, cracks, or losses. An all-over crazed glaze finish is present as a design feature (photo 1). Several small dark spots or kiln marks are visible on the reverse surface (photo 2).
