Description
An oak miniature furniture group comprising a musical settle-style box and a lidded casket. Each piece is constructed from solid oak with dark-stained finishes and elaborate Gothic Revival ornamentation. The settle features a high back decorated with five blind-arched panels above a hinged seat. The seat opens to reveal a two-section interior with a pale wood lining. To the reverse, a metal T-shaped winding key is fitted to a musical movement mechanism. The casket is of rectangular form with a hinged lid featuring interlocking geometric chip-carving. The base is decorated with a continuous band of repeating circular motifs and rests on short block feet. The reverse of the settle bears a small circular aperture for the winding mechanism and three exposed dowel fixings on each side panel. No maker marks or inscriptions are present on either piece.

Condition report:
Both items exhibit significant surface wear consistent with age and use. There are widespread abrasions to the dark-stained finish, particularly along the edges and raised portions of the carving, revealing the lighter oak beneath. The settle has scattered small nicks and surface scratches to the back panel and seat. The casket shows minor staining to the top surface and general wear to the base. The musical mechanism is present but untested.
