Lot 153:
Description
A collection of international postage stamps comprising several albums including a cloth-bound volume titled The Lincoln Stamp Album and Catalogue. The assembly features thousands of specimens from global issuing authorities including the UK, Canada, Malta, Bulgaria, and Hungary. The Lincoln album contains 19th and early 20th-century definitive and commemorative issues, including British King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II stamps, alongside early European and North American examples. The stamps are presented in various formats, including mounted specimens on printed album pages, loose examples in stock books, and groupings behind protective plastic film. A wide range of subjects is represented, featuring sporting events, flora, fauna, and historical figures. The stamps exhibit various philatelic features including circular date stamp cancellations, multiple perforation gauges, and various denominations in a broad palette of colours. A wooden ruler visible indicates the scale of the larger volumes.
Width: 33 cm.
Condition report:
The vintage Lincoln album exhibits significant shelf wear, with heavy rubbing and losses to the embossed brown cloth cover (photo 1). Internal pages of the Lincoln album show heavy foxing, yellowing, and minor tears consistent with age (photo 1, bottom right). The stamps themselves vary in condition; many used specimens show heavy ink cancellations, while others appear to have short or clipped perforations. The modern albums and stock pages appear in better structural condition, though some plastic film shows creasing and surface scuffing (photo 1, top left).
