Lot 169:
Description
A monochrome photograph housed in an oak frame, depicting a gentleman in traditional Highland sporting attire posing with a red deer stag. The subject is seen in profile wearing a tweed jacket, breeches, and a deerstalker hat, with one foot rested upon the flank of the stag. The background shows a vast mountain landscape characteristic of the Scottish Highlands. The photograph appears to be a silver gelatin print from the early 20th century, displaying characteristic silver mirroring to the darker areas of the emulsion. The work is presented within a dark-stained oak frame featuring a prominent wood grain. No maker’s mark or signature is visible to the front or the frame.
Width: 22.8 cm.
Condition report:
The photograph shows significant silver mirroring and surface glare, most notably in the lower right quadrant (photo 1). The paper displays light foxing and general yellowing across the surface consistent with age. There is a visible horizontal ripple to the paper at the top edge. The oak frame is structurally sound but shows minor surface abrasions and small losses to the stained finish along the edges.
