Lot 173:
Description
A vintage tin plate child’s index-style typewriter finished in black paint with gold-toned accents. The machine features a rotating cylindrical character wheel mounted above a rectangular body. Two circular plates on the front of the frame each feature a stylized black letter S within a gold border. A lower plate is printed with the characters D.R.P. U.S.A. Patente D.R.G.M. The keyboard is arranged in a QWERTZ layout with characters printed in black on circular white backgrounds. The machine includes a metal carriage with a black rubber platen and a wire paper guide. It is housed in its original cardboard box which features a patterned exterior of orange, green, and white stripes and a red interior base. A separate red and black typewriter ribbon on a black plastic spool is included.
Condition report:
The black paint on the tin plate body shows surface scuffs and minor losses consistent with age (photo 1). The steel carriage rails and various exposed metal components exhibit patches of oxidation and surface grime (photo 2). The printed characters on the keyboard and index wheel remain largely legible, though some surface dust is present throughout. The cardboard box is in poor condition with structural failure to the corners, multiple tears, and significant old adhesive tape repairs which have yellowed and become brittle (photo 1). The typewriter ribbon appears unused but has been unspooled in sections.
