Description
A Chinese bamboo and wood birdcage featuring a circular, dome-topped form. The cage is constructed from fine vertical bamboo struts set into a thick circular wooden base. The upper dome is surmounted by a turned wooden finial and a large, curved metal hanging hook with a decorative collar. The base is embellished with a decorative carved apron featuring foliate and floral motifs and rests on three integral feet. The interior contains two turned wooden perches, one of which is occupied by a faux bird figure with feather-like texture. One side of the cage incorporates a sliding door mechanism for access. The wooden components exhibit a warm reddish-brown finish. There are no maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions visible on the exterior of the object. A green wire tie is present on the lower right exterior.
Diameter: 23.5 cm.
Condition report:
The item is in fair antique condition. One vertical bamboo strut is missing from the lower right section of the cage (photo 1). The metal hanging hook shows signs of oxidation and surface wear throughout. There is a general accumulation of dust and surface wear consistent with age, including minor scuffs and scratches to the wooden base and perches.
