Lot 184:
Description
A decorative non-firing replica of an 18th-century European four-barrel flintlock turnover pistol. The item features a cluster of four barrels in a rotating configuration, finished in a dark grey metal with stamped floral and scrollwork decorative patterns. The lock plate and cock are similarly ornamented with cast foliate scrollwork, accompanied by a brass frizzen and trigger guard. The stock is constructed from a synthetic material modelled to simulate carved ivory, featuring deep relief foliate designs and a flared brass butt cap. The barrels are held by a brass band at the breech and a corresponding brass cap at the muzzle. This piece is a modern decorative model intended for display purposes and contains no functional internal firing mechanism. Key markings include stamped floral motifs on each barrel and cast patterns on the side plates, though no manufacturer marks or proof marks are present. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a uniform grey finish with some minor surface oxidation and light pitting consistent with handling. The brass-toned furniture shows general tarnishing and wear to the highlights. The synthetic stock remains intact with some light surface scuffing and discolouration in the recessed areas of the carving. The action is stiff but the cock and trigger move; however, the turnover mechanism has not been function-tested. The bores are clear but unrifled and finished in the same grey tone as the exterior.
