Lot 189:
Description
A Silver coloured commemorative boxing trophy depicting a male pugilist in a dynamic sparring stance. The figure is realistically modelled wearing a vest, trunks, and boxing gloves, standing with the left lead hand extended and the right hand held defensively near the chin. The metal figure is mounted upon a square black stone base with polished surfaces, which is further set onto a large, square wooden presentation plinth. The wooden base features beveled upper edges and a recessed rectangular area on the front face where a nameplate was previously situated. There are no legible maker’s marks or signatures present on the figure or the stone base. The front of the wooden plinth bears adhesive residue and fragments of gold-coloured foil in a rectangular shape where an inscription plate has been removed.
Height: 46 cm
Base Width: 20 cm
Base Depth: 20 cm.
Condition report:
The silver finish on the figure shows visible wear and rubbing on high-relief areas including the shoulders, hair, and gloves (photo 1). The wooden presentation base has significant cosmetic damage, including a large rectangular area of missing finish and adhesive residue where a nameplate was formerly attached (photo 2). There are multiple scuffs, scratches, and chips to the wooden edges, most notably along the front-left beveled corner (photo 2). The black stone base remains intact with minor surface dust (photo 1).
