Description
A Bone hand carved decorative handle, likely intended as a walking stick pommel, featuring a complex and tiered arrangement of mythological and macabre figures. The front of the piece is dominated by a central long-haired female figure, carved from the waist up, set beneath a large eagle with outstretched wings that envelop the top of the handle. The lower section of the front features serpentine or dragon-like scales and a circular motif containing a swastika symbol. The reverse and sides are densely decorated with multiple human skulls set amongst swirling flame-like and floral scrolls. The natural bone material displays a porous, honeycomb-like cancellous structure at the unpolished cross-sections of the base and top. The exterior exhibits a cream-coloured patina with darker staining in the deep recesses to accentuate the carving. No maker’s marks or signatures are present on the surface.

Condition report:
The item is in good structural condition with no visible chips or cracks to the carved figures. There is minor surface staining and dirt accumulated within the deep recesses of the carving, consistent with age. The top and bottom cross-sections remain in a raw, unpolished state as shown in photos 3 and 4.
