Description

A British Army Territorial Force cap badge for the West Riding Royal Horse Artillery. Struck from brass, the badge is designed in the form of a field gun, a traditional motif of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, featuring a functional rotating wheel. Above the gun, a scroll is embossed with the text WEST RIDING and is surmounted by a King’s Tudor Crown. Below the gun carriage, a three-part scroll bears the embossed text ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY. The reverse is fitted with three copper mounting lugs for headdress attachment, located behind the crown and at each end of the lower scroll.

Condition report:

The badge is in good original condition with a mellow brass patina. There is some minor surface oxidation and dirt accumulation in the recesses of the scrolls and gun carriage (photo 1). The rotating wheel mechanism remains intact and functional. All three copper lugs on the reverse are present and show no signs of repair or replacement (photo 2).
