Lot 41:
Description
A trio of French military parachute qualification insignia comprising three distinct variants for the different uniform types. The collection includes a bullion dress patch featuring silver wire thread for the parachute and wings and gold wire thread for the laurel wreath, hand-embroidered onto a black wool backing. Also included is a Silver service badge featuring a polished metal parachute and wings above a gold laurel wreath and a five-pointed star. The third item is a machine-embroidered combat patch on olive drab fabric, featuring a black parachute and wings with yellow laurel leaves, designed for wear on utility uniforms. The design follows the 1946 official French military specification for the Brevet de Parachutiste Militaire. No manufacturer marks or homologation numbers are visible.
Condition report:
The bullion patch shows minor fraying at the edges of the felt backing and slight oxidation to the wire thread (photo 1). The metal badge shows minor surface scratches and pitting consistent with wear, with some tarnish in the recessed areas (photo 1). The cloth patch shows moderate edge wear and pilling to the base fabric, with signs of previous sewing to a garment (photo 1).
