Lot 47:
Description
An assortment of East German officer shoulder boards for the Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) and Grenztruppen der DDR. The collection includes a pair of Oberst (Colonel) boards featuring a crimson wool base with a silver braided top surface. These boards are adorned with three silver diamond-shaped pips arranged in a triangular formation. The underside is finished in matching crimson fabric with a slide-on tongue attachment. Also included is a pair of Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) boards for the Border Troops, constructed with a bright green wool base and silver flat braid. These are decorated with three gold stars and a gold pebbled button at the top of each board. The reverse of the green boards features field-grey fabric backing with slide-on tongues. No maker marks or date codes are visible on the reverse of the items.
Condition report:
The crimson senior officer boards are in excellent condition with bright silver braiding and no visible moth damage to the wool (photo 1). The green junior officer boards show minor oxidation to the gold metal pips and a small rust-coloured spot on one of the olive-green attachment tongues on the reverse (photo 2). The green wool remains vibrant throughout.
