Description
A commemorative maritime weather station and clock set produced for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The instruments are mounted on a polished mahogany wood plaque with a shaped, arched pediment. On the left is a quartz clock featuring an off-white dial with black Roman numerals and three hands. To the right is an aneroid barometer with scales for barometric pressure in millibars (930 to 1050) and inches of mercury (28 to 31), including weather indicators for Rain, Change, and Fair with corresponding sun and storm icons. Both dials feature a central logo depicting a stylized blue and orange wave with a lifeboat and the printed text 175 years of saving lives at sea. Centered above the instruments is a brass and enamel badge featuring the RNLI flag and the inscribed text RNLI 1824 – 1999. A decorative brass ship’s wheel is mounted at the base. The barometer dial is marked at the bottom with INS Hg and ENGLAND followed by a copyright symbol.
Width: 33 cm.
Condition report:
Visible pitting and tarnishing are present on the brass-effect bezels, most notably on the upper edge of the clock bezel (photo 3). The mahogany plaque shows minor surface dust and a small circular indentation in the wood located between the two instruments near the top (photo 2). The brass ship\'s wheel displays minor oxidation in the recesses (photo 1). The clock is in working order at the time of cataloguing.
