Lot 82:
Description
A stoneware slab-built vase of modernist architectural form, featuring a stepped, three-tier rectangular profile. The ceramic body is finished in a pale green celadon-toned wash with dark oxide staining applied to the recesses to emphasise the relief-moulded decoration. The front face is divided into three distinct geometric sections: the lowest featuring a trio of raised circular motifs over a stylised angular base, the middle section decorated with diagonal parallel hatching, and the uppermost tier containing a dense, web-like textured pattern. The reverse of the tallest section is decorated with a large, stylised sunflower relief featuring a textured central disc and radiating petals, adjacent to a lower tier with a trailing vine and circular berry motif. The piece is constructed with a narrow rectangular aperture at the top. No maker marks or signatures are present on the exterior surfaces.
Height: 12.7 cm
Width: 10 cm.
Condition report:
The vase is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Minor firing imperfections and surface wear consistent with studio pottery are present, including a small red surface mark on the side profile (photo 2).
