Lot 106:
Description
A Second World War German military Reinigungsgerät 34 (RG34) rifle cleaning kit, comprising a rectangular stamped steel canister with a dark patinated finish. The container features two hinged lids at opposing ends, secured by spring-tensioned latches. The interior holds a linked metal pull-through cleaning chain composed of cylindrical rollers, a section of heavy multi-strand cord, and a cylindrical cleaning brush. The construction shows characteristic horizontal reinforcing ribs and a vertical side channel. The inner lip of the lower lid is impressed with the manufacturer code and date abr 44, denoting production by C.W. Motz & Co. in 1944.
Condition report:
The steel canister displays significant surface oxidation and loss of original dark finish across all exterior surfaces (photo 1). Areas of minor pitting and rust are visible, particularly near the hinges and lower lid (photo 2). The internal cleaning chain shows surface dulling but remains intact. The cord pull-through is soiled and displays fraying to the fibres (photo 3). Both hinged lids and latches remain functional.
