Description
A collection of vintage technical drawing instruments comprising multiple fitted cases of brass, steel, and nickel instruments. The selection includes ruling pens with bone handles, large compasses, beam compass attachments, dividers, and spring bows housed in fitted cases lined with green, blue, and purple velvet. One brass compass is stamped HARLING for maker W.H. Harling. An upright cardboard case with a printed paper label reads L. & C. HARDTMUTH LTD MANUFACTURING SCHOLASTIC STATIONERS IDEAL WORKS, OXFORD, containing assorted celluloid set squares and drawing aids. The collection is accompanied by a modern boxed Schneide-Lineal paper trimmer and a packaged set of Hemming Italian lettering stencils and set squares.
Condition report:
The instruments exhibit age-appropriate patination to the brass components and light surface oxidation to some steel elements as shown across all images. Cases demonstrate heavy exterior wear, with scuffing, edge losses, and frayed fabric linings (photo 1 and photo 3). The Hardtmuth cardboard sleeve exhibits creasing, heavy edge wear, and corner splits (photo 3). The interior velvet linings retain clear impressions from the tools with localized fading and staining.
