Description
A collection of British Royal commemorative publications and documents spanning the early to mid-20th century. The group includes two copies of the official souvenir programme for the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937, featuring the Royal Arms and Jubilee Trust headers. Also present is a Daily Mail publication titled The Royal Wedding In Pictures documenting the marriage of Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, and a Silver Wedding Souvenir booklet for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip from 1972. Early ephemera includes a Coronation Souvenir of Our King and Queen featuring Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose, a book of services for the Silver Jubilee of King George V from Peterborough Cathedral dated 1935, and a Schoolgirls’ Own Photo Album of the Royal Family. A notable document is a commemorative certificate from the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich presented by the Mayor, Aldermen, and Councillors for the coronation of George V and Queen Mary on 22nd June 1911. The certificate is printed with decorative borders featuring portraits of the King and Queen and views of Windsor Castle, and bears the printed names of S. H. Cuff, Mayor, and William H. Dawson, Chairman of Committee.
Condition report:
The collection shows age-related wear across all items. The 1911 Woolwich certificate exhibits significant toning, foxing, and creasing, particularly at the edges (photo 2). The Coronation of George VI programmes show shelf wear and corner creasing (photo 1). The Royal Wedding In Pictures softcover displays rubbing to the spine and edges with visible foxing to the lower border (photo 4). Several booklets, including the Schoolgirls\' Own Photo Album and the 1935 Silver Jubilee programme, show rusted staples and associated staining to the paper (photo 3). General toning and occasional small tears are present throughout the collection.
