Lot 60:
Description
A Silver sculpture depicting a jockey and horse in mid-air, clearing a steeplechase fence. The piece is rendered with realistic detail, capturing the dynamic movement of the jump with the horse’s forelegs tucked and the jockey leaning forward in the saddle. The fence is modelled with a textured brushwood finish atop a timber-effect frame. The entire group is mounted on a rectangular base textured to resemble grass. The rear of the base is signed in the cast R DONALDSON. The side edge of the base is struck with a series of marks including the maker’s mark CS in a shield, a 925 fineness mark, a leopard’s head, the date letter a, and a rectangular box containing the word FILLED. The underside is finished with green felt.
Length: 23.5 cm
Height: 18 cm.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in good condition with no visible cracks, repairs, or losses to the metal. There is a bright, polished finish throughout with areas of natural darkening and oxidation visible within the recessed textures of the horse\'s coat, the jockey\'s silks, and the fence (photos 1 and 4). The base remains stable and the felt underside is intact.
