Lot 85:
Description
A vintage Mahjong set comprising moulded synthetic white tiles with polychrome engraved Chinese characters, suit symbols, and floral motifs. The set includes suites of Bamboos, Characters, and Circles, accompanied by Winds, Dragons, and numerical flower tiles, painted in red, green, and blue pigment. The tiles are arranged within two fitted plastic lift-out trays, housed inside a bright yellow vinyl-covered carrying case with twin strap fastenings, press-stud closures, a top handle, and a side compartment containing two white game dice.
Condition report:
The tiles and dice remain in clean, undamaged condition with clear, vibrant engraved pigments throughout (photos 1 and 2). The yellow vinyl case exhibits light creasing, superficial surface wear, and mild rubbing to the corners and closure straps (photo 1).
