Description
A varied group of decorative wooden objects and carvings. The collection includes a large dark-stained wooden mask featuring a ridged headdress and white pigment highlights to the eyes and mouth, alongside a smaller wooden mask base decorated with a geometric pattern of green, orange, yellow and black seed beads. Also present is a tall wooden giraffe carving, a standing wooden figure of a bearded man holding a staff, and a darker-stained wooden figure of a man in a loincloth. Musical and utilitarian items comprise a cylindrical wooden drum with a stretched skin head secured by fiber cords, and a large wooden tobacco pipe with a textured bowl. A bulbous vessel, likely a gourd, is encased in a leather harness with metal studs and a spherical wooden stopper. The lot also features an oval wooden plaque with light-coloured wood inlay depicting palm trees and elephants, a dark pointed implement, and a carved light-coloured figure in traditional East Asian robes holding a staff. A dark wooden base holds two miniature white circular stools and bears an incised inscription reading GHANA ADDIS ABABA.
