Description
A pair of cylindrical earthenware pitchers featuring polychrome transfer-print vintage advertising. The first pitcher is decorated with a detailed advertisement for Lyle’s Golden Syrup, including a coastal landscape with palm trees, a depiction of a syrup tin, and text reading ABRAM LYLE & SONS, LIMITED, Sugar Refiners, LONDON. The reverse features a circular vignette of three children and a dog at a dining table. The second pitcher displays an advertisement for Kohler’s Chocolates, depicting children in a tug-of-war scene with the slogan Worth Struggling for. The reverse shows a further scene of children playing in a rural landscape. Both vessels are finished with a cream-coloured glaze, pinched pouring spouts, simple loop handles, and a gold line around the rim.
