Lot 34:
Description
A large hand-carved wood sculpture depicting a standing elephant in a naturalistic pose with its trunk curled towards the chest. The figure is constructed from a solid block of tropical hardwood, featuring a distinctive two-tone finish. The upper body, head, and legs exhibit a smooth, light-toned polished surface, while the ears, trunk, flanks, and hindquarters are finished with a dark stain and detailed with parallel incised lines to simulate the texture of skin. The sculpture includes inset tusks carved from a lighter material and features white painted accents to the toenails. The tail is carved in relief against the right hind leg, and the head shows prominent cranial bosses.
